Danger from spam takes different forms: viruses and malware, decreased network performance, and offensive content. An anti-spam email filter has to address all of these different types of threats effectively. LivePrism makes this even easier: as a hosted service, LivePrism incorporates multiple types of anti-spam email filter, archiving, and load balancing – without having to install any anti-spam email filter software or add any hardware.
Spam can affect your network in several areas:
|
|
|
|
- Delivering viruses, spyware, and malware to your network, including uploading viruses that hijack mail servers to send spam
- Large attachments which increase mail server load and storage
- High volume, which slows down mail server performance
LivePrism anti-spam email filter software mitigates all threats to your network by working as an intermediary between spam and mail servers. Each message is run through a layered series of anti-spam email filter:
- Reputation email filter, which identifies spam messages based on the IP address and throttles delivery of possible spam
- Virus scanning
- Attachment anti-spam email filter, which restricts messages with attachments of potentially dangerous file types, like .scr or .exe
- Policy anti-spam email filter, which controls incoming messages based on the message size
Since LivePrism is hosted, all spam is identified and quarantined before being delivered to your mail servers, so your mail servers never bear the load of increased traffic from spam or risk exposure to malware.
Spam messages are generally illegal messages. Some sell fringe products, like adult materials. Some are phishing scams, email that impersonates legitimate correspondence with a real business; these messages have links to a faked website which captures a person’s login information or other data. Some are outright fraud. Other messages may not be “spam” in the true sense – they’re legal – but they can still be inappropriate for the workplace, such as personal shopping advertisements and private-interest mailing lists.
LivePrism allows admins to set custom content restrictions on the content of email messages, the final level of LivePrism’s anti-spam email filter. Administrators set words or phrases to block, and LivePrism applies the keyword anti-spam email filter to the message body, subject line, and attachments. LivePrism also allows user and administrator blacklists for control over email from specific sites or domains.
